From Erlewine's 2019 album "Second Sight". Dedicated to Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and all the women who have been ‘unheard’ in their truth.

They pulled my grandmother’s roses right out of the ground
85 years she spent puttin' those roots down
She said “it’s to be expected, it’s the way it’s always been
We take what we are given & we make it whole again”

Make it whole again like only we can

We’ve been ripped apart so many times, still here we stand
And every day you come asking “Make it whole again”

They took my grandmother's paintings, burned them then & there
Said she had the devils touch & healed her with a prayer
She said “it’s to be expected, How could they understand?
You cannot see an ocean with your head down in the sand”

I paint it all again with my holy hands
We’ll make it whole again like only we can
We've been ripped apart...

They took every ounce of truth we had & fed it to the fire
Took our pain like Novocaine & wrote us off as liars
It burned into our history, a legacy of shame
Took every ounce of beauty & never learned our names

What if we can't fix it? What if there’s no time?
What if we resisted, called the lie a lie?
What if there’s no savior? There never was a choice?
Do you hear the pleading prayers shaking in our voice?
Screaming from the heavens to this earthly place I stand
Drowning in the wreckage, I don’t know if we can
